Change of birth date
[edit]@Wikimandia: I have reverted your series of edits which changed the subject's birth date. This contradicts at least one source already in the article and also the date given in Admirals of the World: A Biographical Dictionary. The sources you cite are unclear (since you have only given titles, not the publisher or a library index) but appear to be from Ancestry.com. This site is not generally considered reliable for our purposes, see the discussion at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 188#Ancestry.com. SpinningSpark 18:53, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Spinningspark: That source is wrong as he was much older at his death than a 1794 would justify. Accessing an index, census, baptismal records etc that happened to be purchased and made public by Ancestry doesn't make it unreliable. Meanwhile, the biography don't list any birth date, so it's only an estimation of his birth and is likely regurgitating previously published biographies (probably DNB), which come from who knows where, not actual birth records. I've already found newspaper sources that back up the earlier birth date and will add those. —МандичкаYO 😜 19:23, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
